Job Description

Superb opportunity has become available for a quality CA(SA) candidate to join a Credit team within an asset management team in Cape Town. Great opportunity to join a  well experienced, professional and regarded team!


The role in a nutshell: This role is responsible for all aspects of the credit analysis process for a selected portfolio of counter parties and the industries which they form a part of. Working closely with investment team, listed Credit Committee, counter parties and arrangers, borrowers/investee companies and clients invested in funds.


Cape Town based.

Please note that this role is open to suitably qualified Employment Equity candidates.


Key areas of responsibility:

  • Investment recommendations in respect of listed corporate bonds
  • Financial and legal review of new and existing bond issuers (e.g. financial statement analysis, ratio analysis and other analytical measures)
  • Global and local research and analysis, industry specific research and analysis and analysis of legal documentation
  • Development and implementation of credit risk and valuation models
  • Assessment of relative value across listed credit universe and pricing of listed bond instruments
  • Regular contact with counter-party management; rating agencies; deal originators; legal advisors; internal portfolio managers;
  • Deal origination, sourcing transactions via reverse enquiry
  • Developing and maintaining counter-party and arranger relationships
  • Review of transactions, and maintenance of all investment related data
  • Participation in valuation methods and processes


Qualifications and experience required:

  • Minimum of a CA(SA), CFA candidate or similar is preferred (at least Financial Accounting up to 3rd year level is essential)
  • Experience in credit analysis would be an advantage although not essential
  • Must have good modelling and risk assessment skills
  • Knowledge of financial instruments and financial markets an advantage
  • Computer literacy (MS Office, especially MS Excel) is essential
