Great opportunity – ESG in Private Equity!

 

Investment team seeks an ESG Specialist to join their team. This is for an experienced candidate, who will support the team by providing social and environmental findings and support to the investment analysts. We seek to engage with candidates who have experience in this space, who are passionate about responsible investing and the investments industry.

 

Cape Town based.   Please note that this role is only open to suitably qualified Employment Equity candidates. 

 

The role in a nutshell: identifying potential acquisitions and undertaking the due diligence prior to making an investment decision. Covering infrastructure and energy assets. Assisting with project implementation and contractual compliance in respect from an ESG perspective. Assisting with due diligence ensuring funds conform i.e. UNPRI, Equator Principles, IFC Performance Standards, IFC EHS Guidelines and ILO Standards. Responsible for the reviewing of all social and environmental aspects of projects,

Monitoring and influencing the assets in the implementation of their S&E obligations and performance. Training deal originators and asset managers in ESG related issues.

Qualifications and experience required:

 

  • Minimum of an honours or MSc in finance, investments, engineering or environmental
  • Experience sought – 5 years’ experience -
  • Good understanding of responsible Investment (UN PRI, CRISA, Reg 28) and sustainability issues
  • Appropriate professional registration or certification (e.g. SACNASP, EAPSA or other)
  • Understanding and working knowledge of UNPRI, Equator Principles, IFC performance standards, IFC EHS Guidelines and any other relevant S&E performance standards
  • Working knowledge of the South African environmental and social regulatory system, with experience undertaking South African EIAs and other permitting processes
  • Experience and exposure to ESMS development and implementation
  • Experience with social and environmental aspects with capital intensive projects such as infrastructure, power, renewable energy, roads etc.
  • Must have good project management skills, with the ability to manage external consultants from work flow, proposal review, budget management etc.
  • Must have excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Must have strong planning, organisational and have some project management skills
  • Detailed orientated with high work standards, follow-through and motivation
  • A good team player
